🧭 Standard ISICO Learning Path (Customizable)
A universal, project-agnostic framework guiding learners from awareness to sustainable income or employment.
🔗 Multidisciplinary
A flat, professional timeline model showing how ISICO integrates multiple sectors into a complete Skill-to-Income ecosystem.
This model is designed as a clean timeline infographic, similar to corporate roadmaps used in CSR and government projects. Each stage represents a sector-linked capability, connected through a single value-chain flow. Together, these stages form an adoptable ecosystem across all ISICO initiatives.
🎯 Learning Outcomes
Measurable outcomes ensuring accountability, employability, and rural impact.
- Learners will acquire practical skills in food processing, product development, and small-scale manufacturing, enabling them to produce quality, market-ready food products. They will gain knowledge in packaging, labeling, and maintaining hygiene and quality standards.
- Participants will also develop basic entrepreneurial skills, including pricing, cost management, and business planning. They will be introduced to simple digital tools and marketing methods to sell their products in local and digital markets.
- By completing this pathway, women SHG members will be empowered to establish and manage micro-enterprises, generate sustainable income, and contribute to their household and community economic development.
Project Overview
About Project
This project focuses on empowering women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) through food processing training, product development, and micro-enterprise creation. It enables income generation through local production and market linkage.
The SHG Food Processing & Micro Enterprise Development Project is designed to create sustainable livelihood opportunities for rural women through structured skill development and entrepreneurship training.
In many rural areas, women SHGs have strong community networks but limited access to income-generating opportunities. This project addresses that gap by providing hands-on training in food processing, bakery production, and value-added product development.
Participants will learn to prepare market-ready products using locally available raw materials while maintaining hygiene and quality standards. The program also includes training in packaging, labeling, and branding to improve product value.
Additionally, basic digital skills and marketing techniques will be introduced to help SHG members promote and sell their products in local markets and online platforms.
By combining skill training with entrepreneurship support, this project aims to transform SHGs into sustainable micro-enterprises, enabling women to generate income, improve financial independence, and contribute to rural economic development.

Initial field interactions and community assessments indicate that a majority of SHG members are interested in income-generating activities but lack technical skills and business exposure. Over 70% of SHG members expressed interest in food-based micro-enterprises Around 65% have basic cooking skills but lack knowledge in product standardization and packaging Nearly 80% have no exposure to digital marketing or formal selling platforms Existing SHG activities are mostly limited to savings, with minimal income generation These findings highlight the strong potential for skill-based interventions to convert SHGs into sustainable micro-enterprises.

The project will be sustained through SHG-led production units established during implementation. Women participants will continue manufacturing and selling products using the skills and knowledge gained. Local market linkages and digital selling channels will support ongoing income generation. ISICO will provide periodic mentorship, training updates, and market support to ensure long-term sustainability. Community ownership through SHGs and local institutions will ensure continuity and scalability of the project.

The project model is highly scalable and can be replicated across other rural districts using existing SHG networks and community infrastructure such as panchayat halls and training centers. The modular training approach allows adaptation based on local resources and product demand, making it suitable for large-scale implementation.
Problem Statement
In rural areas of Sivagangai district, many women in Self-Help Groups (SHGs) lack access to structured skill development, income-generating opportunities, and market linkages. Although SHGs are active, their activities are often limited to savings and small internal lending, without sustainable livelihood outcomes. There is a clear need to equip women with practical skills in food processing, product development, and entrepreneurship, along with support for packaging, branding, and market access. Without such interventions, women remain underutilized economically, and rural households miss opportunities for income growth and financial independence.
Expected Outcomes
The project will transform women SHGs into active micro-enterprises capable of producing, packaging, and selling value-added food products. Participants will gain practical skills and confidence to start small businesses, leading to regular income generation and improved household financial stability. Women will become economically empowered and contribute to local economic development. The project will also create a sustainable ecosystem of production, entrepreneurship, and market linkage within rural communities.
