🧭 Standard ISICO Learning Path (Customizable)
A universal, project-agnostic framework guiding learners from awareness to sustainable income or employment.
🔗 Multidisciplinary Integrated Skill-to-Income Model
A flat, professional timeline model showing how ISICO integrates multiple sectors into a complete Skill-to-Income ecosystem.
This model is designed as a clean timeline infographic, similar to corporate roadmaps used in CSR and government projects. Each stage represents a sector-linked capability, connected through a single value-chain flow. Together, these stages form an adoptable ecosystem across all ISICO initiatives.
🎯 Learning Outcomes
Measurable outcomes ensuring accountability, employability, and rural impact.
Learners will gain practical skills in food processing, small-scale manufacturing, and product development, enabling them to produce market-ready goods. They will develop knowledge in packaging, quality control, and branding to improve product value and consistency.
Participants will also acquire basic digital literacy and learn how to use technology for business operations, including online marketing and sales. Through this pathway, SHG members will be empowered to start and manage micro-enterprises, generate sustainable income, and contribute to local economic development.
Project Overview
About Project
This project focuses on empowering women Self Help Groups (SHGs) in rural areas by providing skill training in small-scale manufacturing, product development, packaging, and entrepreneurship. The initiative aims to help women establish sustainable micro-enterprises and generate income within their communities.
The ISICO SHG Micro Manufacturing & Rural Enterprise Development Project is designed to promote women empowerment and rural economic development by supporting Self Help Groups (SHGs) in establishing small-scale manufacturing and micro-enterprises.
In many rural communities, women SHG groups are actively engaged in savings and credit activities but often lack access to skill training, product development knowledge, and market opportunities required to create sustainable income-generating businesses. This project addresses that gap by introducing practical training in product manufacturing, packaging techniques, and basic entrepreneurship skills.
Through ISICO’s skill ecosystem, SHG members will learn how to produce locally marketable products such as food products, household items, natural products, and other small-scale manufactured goods. The project will also provide guidance on quality improvement, branding, packaging, and local market access.
By strengthening the capabilities of women SHG groups, the project aims to encourage rural entrepreneurship, create sustainable income opportunities, and contribute to the development of village-level micro industries. The initiative also supports national goals related to women empowerment, rural livelihood development, and skill-based entrepreneurship.

Preliminary community interactions with women SHG groups in selected villages of Sivagangai district indicate strong interest in income-generating activities related to food processing, small product manufacturing, and home-based enterprises. Initial observations show that many SHG members possess traditional knowledge and interest in producing products such as snacks, natural household products, and handicrafts, but lack access to formal training, product quality improvement techniques, and market connections. These findings highlight the need for structured training programs that combine skill development with entrepreneurship support to enable SHG groups to transform local production activities into sustainable micro-enterprises.

After the initial training and implementation phase, the project will be sustained through active participation of trained SHG groups and community ownership. Women participants will continue operating small-scale production activities and micro-enterprises using the skills acquired during the training programs. ISICO will provide continued knowledge support through digital learning resources, mentorship, and guidance on market opportunities. Collaboration with local panchayats, SHG networks, and community organizations will help maintain training spaces and support ongoing activities. Over time, the project aims to establish self-sustaining women-led enterprises that contribute to long-term economic development in rural communities.
Scalability Plan

The project is expected to enable women SHG members to acquire practical skills in product manufacturing, packaging, and basic entrepreneurship. Trained participants will be able to develop locally produced goods and explore opportunities to sell them within local markets or community networks. Women who previously depended mainly on savings activities within SHGs will begin exploring income-generating micro-enterprises, improving household financial stability and economic independence. The project will also promote collaboration among SHG groups, encouraging collective production and business development. Overall, the initiative aims to strengthen women’s participation in rural economic activities and create a foundation for sustainable village-level micro manufacturing enterprises.
Problem Statement
Many women in rural communities participate in Self Help Groups (SHGs) primarily for savings and small credit activities but often lack access to skill training, product development knowledge, and market opportunities needed to build sustainable income-generating enterprises. As a result, the economic potential of SHG groups remains underutilized. There is a growing need to provide structured training in small-scale manufacturing, product packaging, and entrepreneurship so that rural women can produce locally marketable products and establish micro-enterprises. This project aims to address that gap by equipping SHG members with practical skills, business knowledge, and support systems to help them create sustainable livelihood opportunities within their communities.
Expected Outcomes
