Professional Communication
In this module students will be equipped with essential communication skills required in the professional world. This course covers various aspects of communication, including read skills, analysing industry jargon, effective communication in professional settings, presenting information with technology, reading/understanding
professional documents, effective communication in professional writing as well as global communication and cultural sensitivity to enhance their communication abilities.
Career Readiness and Professional Development
In the module, students will be equipped in understanding various occupations in the business industry. This course covers various aspects of career readiness, such as identifying the needs for specific professions, to network among professionals
Construction Communication
- Study and interpret construction plans and drawings used for construction and management of built structures
Building Services 1
- Attain knowledge of how electricity is being generated, transmitted and consumed
- Understand theories behind the design, construction, operation and maintenance of electrical services and intelligent building systems
- Understand the design, installation, operation and maintenance of Cold Water Systems, Plumbing Fittings, Sanitary Plumbing and Vent Pipe System
Building Services 2
- Study basic principles of refrigeration cycles and air distribution systems
- Understand the design, installation, operation and maintenance of air-conditioning systems and pipe services in buildings
- Study the system overview, components and maintenance requirements of lifts and escalators
Fire Safety and Workplace Safety and Health (WSH)
- Study firefighting strategy and investigation techniques in fire safety
- Understand the principles, legislation and regulatory requirements and management behind the passive and active fire safety measures in Singapore buildings
- Understand principles and applications of WSH principles and compliances
Industry Attachment-Internship (24 Weeks)
The industry attachment provides students with an opportunity to gain work life experience in the facilities management industry with the following benefits:
- To be able to identify various building construction technologies, materials and finishes.
- Acquire fundamental knowledge the maintenance of building mechanical and electrical systems.
- Understand the importance of basic statutory regulations related to physical environment e.g. workplace safety and health
Do note: For students who are unable to go internship, they are to required to submit a research project.
- Coursework and Written Examinatons.
Graduation Requirements
- A minimum of 90% attendance for student pass holders is required and 75% attendance is required for non-student pass holders
- Minimum mark of 40% is required to pass each module
